I had the privilege of attending the national leadership conference for Team River Runner these past three days in Western Pennsylvania, specifically Uniontown and Ohiopyle. TRR veterans and volunteers from across the country gathered to grow and get stronger. Strengthening our leadership and outreach skills. Strengthening our commitment to work together as a unified team. And above all, strengthening our commitment to help disabled military veterans. In addition to conferencing, we took time to grow our kayaking skills on nearby Casselman and Lower Youghiogheny Rivers. The Youghiogheny is more commonly called the “Yough” which is pronounced “Yock” but don’t ask me why. Casselman is a fun Class II to III. The Yough is rated Class III at normal flows. However at +5 ft this past Tuesday the Yough wasn’t at all normal. In fact it was some of the biggest whitewater I ever paddled other than kayak surfing on Lake Michigan.
Here are videos captured by my GoPro. Twenty-five of us paddled Class II – III Casselman on Monday…
And ten of us paddled Class III+ Lower Yough on Tuesday…
