The Bay of Fundy has the largest tides in the world. One place to get up close and personal with this powerful phenomenon is on the Shubenacadie River, a tributary that flows into the bay. Here the river level rises nearly 26 feet in just over two hours. Our guided excursion began in calm shallow water and included romping in the mud (for some) as we waited for the tide to come in and flow upstream. The ripples soon built to six-foot standing waves that literally flooded the boat time after time. Our boat mates from England obviously enjoyed it too. That evening’s hot shower never felt better. Here’s my video.
When were you doing that? Shorts, yes – but I can’t believe the water was warm!
We did this on Sept. 23. The water was actually fairly warm.
